NL Transaction May 31st

The Cincinnati Redlegs placed 26 year old pitcher Corky Valentine on the DL. Valentine had a very good rookie year in 1954 going 16-9 in 28 starts with a 3.84 ERA and making the NL All Star squad. This year he was 3-1 in 5 starts with a 5.06 ERA in 27 innings pitched. Unable to replicate his success from last year the Redlegs found he had been concealing arm troubles. Valentine would never pitch in the big leagues again.

NL Transaction May 31st

The Milwaukee Braves signed 19 year old pitcher John Edelman as a bonus baby free agent. Edelman is immediately placed on the active roster.

NL Transaction May 31st

The Chicago Cubs placed 24 year old outfielder Ted Tappe on the DL. Tappe had brief cups of coffe in 1950 and 1951 before getting his first real shot this season. This injury would pretty much end his career. In 21 games Tappe was hitting .250 with 4 HR's and 10 RBI.
