11,758 fans were treated to a fine game at Yankee Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The New York Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Bob Grim(3-1) gave a fine effort for New York. He surrendered 5 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. Chicago had a chance to come back in the 9th but
they came up short.

Grim was helped out by Tom Morgan who recorded his 3rd save. Virgil
Trucks(2-4) was the loser. He was unable to control the New York offense and
allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.

'We won because we did the little things right.' Casey Stengel said after the
game. 'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so when we get
in close games we don't make mistakes.'
