Ralph Kiner homers twice with 5 RBI in Clevelands victory.

Center fielder Bill Tuttle slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Duke Maas
delivered 5 solid innings at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the
Chicago White Sox 6 to 0.

Tuttle enjoyed a big day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st
inning and delivered a solo blast (his 7th of the season) in the 5th inning.
Detroit finished with 7 hits while Chicago ended up with 3.

Maas(4-5) got the win allowing no runs in 5 innings. Dick Donovan(10-4)
absorbed the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 5 innings and saw his ERA jump from
2.78 to 3.15.

Ralph Kiner smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Mike Garcia went the distance
as the Cleveland Indians defeated the pitiful Kansas City Athletics 10 to 2
at Municipal Stadium.

Kiner really lit it up for Cleveland. The Kansas City fans let him have it
for what he did to their boys. He banged out a single bringing in a run in
the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 3rd
inning and hit a bases-empty home run (his 14th of the season) in the 6th
inning. Cleveland kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they scored
in 6 different innings.

Garcia(8-7) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. Art
Ceccarelli(4-5) took the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Kiner said. 'That's
it'

WASHINGTON AT BOSTON

Bill Henry went 9 strong innings and second baseman Billy Goodman had 3 base
hits and 3 RBI at Fenway Park as the Boston Red Sox beat the Washington
Nationals by the count of 9 to 1.

Boston took the lead for keeps in the 3rd inning plating an isolated run
utilizing 3 base hits. Henry stroked a single. Goodman stepped into the
batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Billy Klaus then doubled
scoring the run. Boston had a total of 13 hits for the game.

Henry(2-5) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Bob
Porterfield(5-9) was charged with the loss. 'When Henry is on like that it
is a tough game to play, no doubt about it,' Chuck Dressen said. 'He always
pitches well against us.'

Duke Snider homers for the 1st time in 18 games for Brooklyn.

Billy Loes was on top of his game, blanking Pittsburgh on just 3 hits at
Forbes Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count
of 4 to 0.

Loes(6-3) had a strong outing. He allowed only 3 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.49 to 3.13. Brooklyn managed 10 in their
victory.

Ron Kline(3-11) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 10 hits in 9
innings.

MILWAUKEE AT CHICAGO

Sam Jones pitched a 3 hit shutout at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat
the Milwaukee Braves 5 to 0.

Jones(7-8) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Milwaukee batters. He allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering
his ERA to 3.38. Chicago rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Bob Buhl(10-3) ended up with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 and
1/3 innings.

PHILADELPHIA AT NEW YORK

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Giants by a score of 4 to 1 at
Polo Grounds.

New York fell behind quickly as the Philadelphia offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. That scoring would be all that was
needed. New York went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.

The victory went to Murry Dickson(4-7) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Dickson got help from Jack Meyer who was credited with his 5th save.
The losing pitcher was Ruben Gomez(5-3). He allowed 4 runs and 5 hits in 8
innings.


ST. LOUIS AT CINCINNATI

Joe Nuxhall pitched a complete game and Ted Kluszewski cracked a homer and had
2 RBI at Crosley Field where the Cincinnati Redlegs beat the St. Louis
Cardinals by the score of 7 to 4.

Cincinnati tallied 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. Johnny
Temple led off and he lined a one-base hit. Temple was safe on a stolen
base. Harvey Haddix then had one get away for a wild pitch. Stan Palys came
up and he doubled driving in a run. Kluszewski came to the plate and slapped
a base-hit, and an error was also committed, driving in one more runner.
After an out was recorded, Gus Bell came to the plate and lined a base-hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Cincinnati banged out 11 on the night.

Nuxhall(10-5), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory.
Haddix(8-8) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6
innings of work.

NL Transaction July 7th


The Brooklyn Dodgers placed rookie Sandy Koufax on the DL. Koufax threw a 5 hitter yesterday and is 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA over 14 innings so far this year.
