Gail Harris had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Giants defeated the
Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 3 to 2 at Polo Grounds.

New York tallied 2 runs in the 7th inning when they had 3 base hits. The
highlight belonged to Harris who electrified Polo Grounds when he slapped a
single bringing in two baserunners. Brooklyn had a chance to come back in
the 9th but they came up short.

Sal Maglie(6-4) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Marv
Grissom recorded his 8th save. Carl Erskine(8-8) suffered the loss. He got
hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Walt Alston 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'

Catcher Walker Cooper homered and had 3 RBI and Howie Pollet tossed a complete
game as the Chicago Cubs outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 6 to
1.

Pollet(3-2) gave a fine effort for Chicago. He was reached for 7 hits and no
walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.40. Chicago had a total of 10 hits
for the game.

Luis Arroyo(5-6) took the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 7 and 2/3
innings.

CINCINNATI AT MILWAUKEE

Gus Bell hit a homerun and had 2 RBI and Joe Black allowed Birdie Tebbetts to
rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Cincinnati Redlegs defeated
the Milwaukee Braves 2 to 1 at County Stadium.

Black(5-0) pitched a solid game. He was reached for 7 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings lowering his ERA to 2.75. Both teams totaled 7 on the afternoon.

Gene Conley(9-6) absorbed the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up only 5
hits and 1 walk. With this win, Cincinnati has a 46-33 record. They have
been 7-3 lately. With the loss, the Milwaukee ballclub's record is 50-32.

Roy McMillan had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Jackie Collum pitched a complete
game as the Cincinnati Redlegs destroyed the Milwaukee Braves by a score of
12 to 2 at County Stadium.

Milwaukee never recovered after Cincinnati took the lead in the top of the 5th
inning as they scored 2 runs on 1 base hits. Cincinnati finished with 7 hits
in the victory.

Collum(3-2) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Chet Nichols(7-3)
ended up with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an
earned run in his 5 innings of work.

Bob Friend pitched a complete game as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the
Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 6 to 1 at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh took the lead off Curt Simmons in the first inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits. Pittsburgh rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.

Friend(5-7) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Simmons(2-7) was
charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2
innings.

Willie Jones had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11 innings by the score of 13 to 10 at ForbesField. The score was tied at 10 after nine. Philadelphia came out the victor in the 11th inning. Peanuts Lowrey started the inning off right when he lined a base-hit. After an out was recorded, Bobby Morgan stepped in and he
delivered a single. Glen Gorbous then drew a walk to load the bases. Del Ennis followed and he hit a deep fly which plated a run. Jones came to the plate and doubled adding another two runs to their total. Philadelphia bats were very productive in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits and the 6th inning when they had 4 runs on 3 hits. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. Jack Meyer(6-7) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 2/3 innings and allowing no runs. Dick Littlefield(1-9) ended up with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work.

AL Game recap July 10th

Willard Nixon went the distance as the Boston Red Sox topped the reeling
Baltimore Orioles, who lost their 11th straight game, by a score of 3 to 2 at Fenway Park.

Boston came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Baltimore could
do no damage in the 9th. Nixon(5-6) allowed 2 runs on the game. Jim
McDonald(0-5) was tagged with the loss.


CLEVELAND AT CHICAGO

Jack Harshman allowed 2 hits while blanking Cleveland as the Chicago White Sox
defeated the Cleveland Indians 2 to 0 at Comiskey Park.

Harshman(6-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Cleveland offense.
He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.53.
Chicago had only 4 hits for the afternoon.

Art Houtteman(1-5) was charged with the loss. He gave up just 2 runs and 4
hits in 8 innings. 'We didn't have a whole lot of chances today,' Al Lopez
said. 'Harshman just was too much for our guys.'

CLEVELAND AT CHICAGO

Second baseman Nellie Fox had 3 base hits and Virgil Trucks pitched a complete
game at Comiskey Park as the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians by
the count of 5 to 2.

In the 6th inning Chicago scored 3 runs. The highlight belonged to Bob Nieman
who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he smacked a three-run homer
(his 7th of the season). The Cleveland offense proved no trouble in the 9th.

Trucks(8-6) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Herb
Score(11-4) was the loser. He pitched 6 innings giving up 5 hits and 4
walks.

KANSAS CITY AT DETROIT

Cloyd Boyer allowed Lou Boudreau to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the Detroit Tigers 6 to 2 at Briggs
Stadium.

Kansas City promptly took the lead in their half of the first as they scored 2
runs on 2 base hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Elmer Valo who
deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he bombed a two-run dinger
(his 2nd of the season). Kansas City had 13 hits for the afternoon.

The win was credited to Boyer(4-3) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Steve Gromek(5-8) suffered the loss. He was unable to control the Kansas
City offense and allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.


KANSAS CITY AT DETROIT

Ned Garver had a strong outing and first baseman Earl Torgeson had 2 base hits
and 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers won a dandy at Briggs Stadium over the
lifeless Kansas City Athletics, 4 to 2.

Detroit came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 2
hits. Fred Hatfield led off and started the rally when he ripped a
base-knock. Charlie Maxwell stepped up next and he lifted one out of the
park for a two run home run (his 2nd of the season) resulting in an exciting
win for Detroit and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans.
Detroit totaled 11 on the afternoon.

The win went to Garver(9-4) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Tom Gorman(2-3)
was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning and surrendered 3
hits and no walks.

'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a
good groove.' Garver said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game
tomorrow!'







NEW YORK AT WASHINGTON

Win:Stone(7-6) Loss:Ford(9-5)

Dean Stone went the distance as the Washington Nationals outscored the NewYork Yankees 3 to 2. Washington scored 1 run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Both teams ended up with 6 on the afternoon. Stone(7-6) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Whitey Ford(9-5) took the loss. With this win, Washington has a 32-48 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With the loss New York now has a record of 56-27.

Pete Runnels had 3 base hits at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals beat the New York Yankees in 10 innings by the count of 5 to 4. Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Washington wasvictorious in the 10th inning. Runnels drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Mickey McDermott stepped in and he banged out a single. Juan Delis then slapped a base-hit making Washington the winners and sending the 7,848 fans home happy. Washington had 13 hits for the afternoon while New York had 8. Pedro Ramos(1-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Tom Morgan(5-2)was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up 3 hits and 1 walk.

31,759 fans were treated to a fine game at Fenway Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Boston Red Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 7 to 6. Sammy White had two doubles & 2 RBI for the
victors.

In the 5th inning Boston went on top for good scoring 2 runners on 3 hits.
Baltimore had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Ike Delock(5-4) allowed 6 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Ellis Kinder earned his 11th save. Erv Palica(2-10) was the losing
pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 7 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Boston continued their winnings ways improving their record to 43-40. They
are 8-2 in their last ten games. Paul Richards was pretty down after the
loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 0-10 in the
last week or two. That won't get it done.'

CLEVELAND AT CHICAGO

Larry Doby slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Early Wynn carried a no-hitter
into the 6th inning at Comiskey Park as the Cleveland Indians beat the
Chicago White Sox by the count of 3 to 1.

Wynn(8-3) was virtually untouchable. He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 9
innings. The right-handed Wynn lost his chance for a no-hitter when Jim
Rivera homered with nobody out in the 6th inning. Chicago went down without
a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

The losing pitcher was Connie Johnson(1-1). He gave up 3 runs and 4 hits in 6
innings.

KANSAS CITY AT DETROIT

Frank House cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Frank Lary went the distance
at Briggs Stadium as the Detroit Tigers beat the Kansas City Athletics 10 to
2.

House provided much of the offense. He blasted a two-run home run in the 2nd
inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 10th of the season) in the
4th inning and laced a base-hit scoring a run in the 6th inning. Detroit
banged out 18 on the afternoon.

Lary(5-10) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Art Ditmar(3-6)
ended up with the loss. He allowed 4 homeruns in 4 innings of work.


NEW YORK AT WASHINGTON

"Bullett" Bob Turley came through with a solid 9 innings as the New York Yankees topped
the Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 0 at Griffith
Stadium.

Turley(9-3) was virtually untouchable. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Neither team managed to score after
the 3rd inning.

Johnny Schmitz(5-6) absorbed the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. The winning ways continue for
New York. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent days. With the loss,
Washington has a record of 4-6 lately, 31-48 overall.
