Dick Littlefield delivered 9 solid innings and Jerry Lynch had 2 base hits as
the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs by a score of 1 to 0.

The game's lone run was scored in the top of the 4th inning. Chicago had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Littlefield(1-7) went the distance for the shutout. Warren Hacker(2-7) was
given the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run
in his 6 innings of work.

'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a
good groove.' Littlefield said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another
game tomorrow!'

Paul Giel tossed 5 1/3 innings of 2 hit relief as the Giants top the Cardinals 7-5.
