Warren Spahn delivered 9 solid innings as the Milwaukee Braves defeated the
St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3 to 2 at Sportsmans Park.
Milwaukee tallied 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. Johnny Logan led off
and keyed the rally when he slapped a base-hit. George Crowe followed and he
cracked a two-run shot (his 7th of the season). St. Louis made it exciting
in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
Spahn(16-7) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Larry
Jackson(8-14) was given the loss. 'I thought it was my best performance in a
long time,' said Spahn. 'I had good command early in the game. I had my
control and composure and everything went well.'
Walker Cooper had 3 hits, 2 doubles, and 2 RBI as the Cubs edge the Redlegs 3-2.

Duke Snider hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as the amazing Brooklyn Dodgers
outscored the struggling New York Giants 6 to 0.
Brooklyn took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning when they tallied
2 runs on 2 hits. Brooklyn finished with 10 hits while New York ended up
with 5.
Karl Spooner(10-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 5 innings and allowing
no runs. Ed Roebuck gained credit for his 7th save. Jim Hearn(9-14) was the
loser. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 7 hits and 2 walks in
4 and 1/3 innings.
With this win, Brooklyn has a 73-44 record. They have been 6-4 lately. New
York can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a
miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
