a hard fought contest.

Lew Burdette(4-3) was solid if not spectacular. He went 6 innings allowing 5
hits and 1 walk and served up 2 'big flies'. Cincinnati had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

Burdette was helped out by Bob Buhl who recorded his 1st save. Gerry
Staley(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 4 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

Don Newcombe pitches a three hitter ending the Dodger losing streak at 2 games, 3-2 over the Pirates.

Mike Garcia blanked Chicago in a very well-pitched complete game as the
Cleveland Indians outscored the Chicago White Sox 1 to 0.

Garcia(4-4) looked very much in control throughout the day. He allowed just 9
hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 2.87 to 2.45. Chicago
had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Sandy Consuegra(2-1) was hit with the loss. 'Fundamentals, fundamentals,
fundamentals' said Marty Marion after the game. 'We lost this game today
because we didn't follow the instructions every Little Leaguer hears every
day.'

Jim Wilson, acquired from the Braves at the start of the season, throws a 2 hit shutout as the O's tame the Red Sox 4-0.

Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count
of 9 to 0.

Tappe provided much of the offense. He ripped a solo home run in the 5th
inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 7th
inning. Chicago rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon.

Minner(3-3) went the distance for the shutout. Larry Jackson(2-4) was given
the loss. He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
