Chicago Cubs by a score of 5 to 2.
Klippstein(6-5) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and
1 walk in 9 innings. Chicago made it exciting in the 9th, but they were
unable to push the needed runs across.
Jim Davis(5-4) was given the loss. Despite losing Stan Hack was optimistic
after the game. 'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your
way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a dozen little things go different,

Ernie Banks cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Sam Jones was able to finish
what he started and was credited with a complete game as the Chicago Cubs
beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 4 to 3.
Banks made sure the Chicago fans enjoyed themselves. He smashed a solo-shot
out of the park in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 32nd of
the season) in the 4th inning. Brooklyn had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
Jones(12-9) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Don Newcombe(11-8)
suffered the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 8 innings of work.
The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 60-54. Brooklyn has a record of
68-42 after the loss.
NL Transaction August 8th
The Brooklyn Dodgers placed 25 year old righthander Billy Loes on the DL today. In his 5th season, all with Brooklyn, Loes is 6-5 with a 3.46 ERA in 16 starts so far this season. Last year he was 10-6 with a 4.65 ERA in 21 starts. This is another blow to the Bums starting staff as Carl Erskine and Sandy Koufax are already out with injuries.
