NL Transaction June 29th

The Brooklyn Dodgers placed 33 year old 8 year veteran Roy Campanella on the disabled list today. Campanella, one of the frontrunners in the MVP race this season, has three broken fingers and is unable to grip a bat. Manager Walter Alston hopes to have his signal caller back in two to four weeks. So far this year Campanella is hitting .329 with 18 homers and 51 RBI. This has been a big bounce back campaign for the Dodger catcher as he hit only .188 with 24 homers and 72 RBI last year.

NL Transaction June 29th

The Cincinnati Reds traded Clint Hartung, Sal Yvars and cash to Oakland (PCL) inexchange for Joe Brovia.

Hartung is a 32 year old pitcher/OF who played 6 seasons with the NY Ginats (1947-1952). Yvars is a 30 year old catcher with 8 seasons in the majors. He hit .286 with one homer and 11 RBI as a member of the Cardinals last year. Neither player has appeared with Cincinnati this year.

Brovia, a 33 year old career minor leaguer, will be used as a pich hitter according to skipper Birdie Tebbets.
