Joe Collins rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the very talented New York
Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox by a score of 15 to 6.
The Boston fans didn't appreciate the big day Collins had. He blasted a solo
shot in the 4th inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 22nd of
the season) in the 6th inning. New York bats were hot in the 6th inning
which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits and the 9th inning with 4 runs on 3
hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 6 different innings was
still not enough for Boston to come away with the victory.
The winning pitcher was Bob Grim(7-3) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. The
losing pitcher was Tom Brewer(14-9). He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 5
innings of work.
Jimmy Piersall slammed 3 homeruns but his offense was not enough to carry
Boston to victory.
Ted Williams hit a 3 run homer as the Red Sox earn a DH split with the Yankees 6-1.

WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Jose Valdivielso robbed Dave Pope of a base hit.
In a thriller the Baltimore Orioles staged a dramatic comeback then held on to
win over the pitiful Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 5 at Griffith
Stadium.
Baltimore had the game winning rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 3
base hits. Chuck Diering started the inning off right when he doubled. Tom
Gastall next to the plate and he doubled bringing in a run. After another
out, Gus Triandos stepped up to the plate and he hit a deep fly scoring the
final run of the inning. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5
times.
The win was credited to Art Schallock(3-4) who went 2 innings allowing 1 run.
Chuck Stobbs(6-14) was charged with the loss in relief.
Paul Richards was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win
it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the
fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win this afternoon!'
