Danny O'Connell touched them all and had 4 RBI as the Milwaukee Braves crushed

the St. Louis Cardinals 16 to 5.



O'Connell enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He ripped a base-knock

knocking in a run in the 3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer (his 5th of

the season) in the 6th inning. Milwaukee provided plenty of action in the

3rd inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits and the 7th inning which saw them

plate 4 runs on 4 hits. Milwaukee had many opportunities throughout the game

and scored in 6 separate innings.



Lew Burdette(15-10) allowed 5 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.

Brooks Lawrence(4-5) was given the loss. He was unable to control the

Milwaukee offense and allowed 5 hits and 4 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.














 

Robin Roberts doubled, tripled, drove in 2 runs, and tossed a 6 hitter as the Phillies edged the Pirates 4-3.

Robin Roberts went the distance as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the

lifeless Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 4 to 3 at Connie Mack

Stadium.



In the 7th inning Philadelphia scored 3 runs with the help of 4 hits. The

highlight belonged to Roberts who made the crowd happy when he tripled

plating two runs. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up

short.



Roberts(18-15), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. The loss

was charged to Max Surkont(4-14). He gave up 4 runs and 7 hits in 6 and 2/3

innings.

NL Transaction September 16th

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled 30 year old 2nd year pitcher Brooks Lawrence today. After a very good rookie year last season, 10-5 3.62 ERA in 157 IP, Lawrence struggled this season. He was 4-4 with a 5.36 ERA in 91 innings before his demotion to Triple A.
