Third baseman Randy Jackson cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Chicago

Cubs topped the Cincinnati Redlegs by a score of 10 to 5 at Crosley

Field.

Jackson was in a groove all day. The Cincinnati fans hated to see him

approaching the batter's box. He doubled knocking in a run in the 2nd

inning, ripped a solo home run in the 5th inning, belted a three-run homer

(his 19th of the season) in the 6th inning and doubled in the 9th inning.

Chicago ended up with 14 hits for the game while Cincinnati had 9.

Bob Rush(14-14) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 7 innings. Art Fowler(15-7)

was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 6

innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Jackson said. 'That's

it'

Willie Mays hit his 48th homer as New York takes the first game of a DH from Philadelphia 4-3.

The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the Milwaukee Braves 3 to 2 at Sportsmans Park

in a hard fought contest.

St. Louis did all of it's offensive work in the 3rd inning when they scored 3

runs on 3 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Lindy

McDaniel(1-0) and St. Louis. That was all the run support McDaniel required.

Milwaukee had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Harvey Haddix earned the save, his 2nd. Ray Crone(8-8) was the loser. He

pitched 6 innings giving up 5 hits and no walks.

Duke Snider had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Dodgers take the 1st game of a DH with the Pirates 6-5.
