Mike Garcia went the distance at Municipal Stadium as the Cleveland Indians
beat the Baltimore Orioles by the count of 6 to 3.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning Cleveland scored 2 runs. After an out was
recorded, Al Smith initiated the scoring spurt when he was hit by a pitch.
One out later, Larry Doby stepped in and he singled. Bill Wight then was
wild with a pitch. Hank Foiles followed and he doubled driving home two
runs. That early scoring was all that Garcia(9-8) needed. Cleveland banged
out 11 on the afternoon.
Wight(1-1) ended up with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 2
walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.
