NL Transaction June 8th

The Cincinnati Redlegs put 31 year old pitcher Bud Podbielan on the DL today. After a poor 1954 campaign (10-9 5.19 ERA), Podbielan was 3-0 with a 4.31 ERA so far this year. The righty is now in his 5th year with the Redlegs after 3 plus years with the Dodgers. At the moment Cincinnati has not made any moves to replace him on the roster.

NL Transaction June 8th

The Brooklyn Dodgers recalled rookie 19 year old pitcher Sandy Koufax back up to the big club today. To make room 27 year old pitcher Tommy Lasorda was sent to Triple A.

Koufax was up earlier in the year pitching in relief for 2 games, winning one. In 2 innings pitched he is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA. Manager Walt Alston said that he might give the rookie a few starts as the minor league reports have been very good.

Lasorda in one start was 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA. He also pitched in 8 innings last year with a 2.16 ERA.

Ray Jablonski slammed 3 homeruns and scored 4 times at Ebbets Field as the
Cincinnati Redlegs beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 11 to 4.

Jablonski was unconscious all day. The Brooklyn fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He hit a
single in the 1st inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 2nd
inning, ripped a solo home run in the 3rd inning and blasted a solo shot (his
7th of the season) in the 8th inning. Cincinnati finished with 15 hits while
Brooklyn ended up with 8.

Bud Podbielan(3-0) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.
Johnny Podres(5-2) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 6 hits
without retiring a batter.

'It's almost like the ball was trying to hit my bat,' Jablonski said.
'Whenever I would swing, the ball found the sweet spot.'

NL Trade June 7th

The Philadelphia Phillies traded 24 year old pitcher Dave Cole and cash to the Brooklyn Dodgers for 25 year old hurler Ron Negray.

Cole, aquired from the Cubs in the offseason, has struggled so far in 1955 posting an 0-3 record with a 8.84 ERA in 18 innings over 3 starts. With the Cubs last year he was 6-4 with a 4.39 ERA in 14 starts. The Dodgers immediately sent Cole to AAA to work on his performance (Dave Cole would never appear in the majors again).

Negray is still considered a rookie having had a brief cup of coffee with Brooklyn in the 1952 campaign. In 4 games that year he had no record over 13 innings with a 3.46 ERA. Phillie Manager Mayo Smith said he plans to insert Negray into the taxed Philadelphia bullpen.

Alex Kellner allowed Lou Boudreau to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of
10 to 1 at Municipal Stadium.

Kansas City took the lead off Camilo Pascual in the first inning when they
exploded for 8 runs on 6 hits. That early scoring held up. Kansas City had
a total of 12 hits for the game.

Kellner(3-4) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Pascual(0-5) was
charged with the loss. With this win, Kansas City has a 16-33 record. They
have been 4-6 lately. Washington can't seem to snap out of their recent
'funk'. Now they have a miserable 1-9 record over the last couple weeks.
