Harmon Killebrew launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Washington Nationals
topped the Detroit Tigers by a score of 7 to 1 at Griffith Stadium.

It was a good day for Washington thanks to Killebrew. He cleared the fences
for a two-run home run in the 2nd inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 6th
of the season) in the 4th inning. Overall Washington out-hit Detroit 9 to 6.

The winning pitcher was Ted Abernathy(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings.
Steve Gromek(5-5) was hit with the loss. He gave up 4 runs and 4 hits in 1
inning.






 

Art Houtteman tossed a 4 hitter for his first win of the year as the Indians top the Yankees 3-1.

Art Houtteman pitched a complete game at Yankee Stadium as the Cleveland
Indians beat the New York Yankees 3 to 1.

Houtteman(1-3) was very good in the win. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.97 to 3.35. Cleveland
banged out 9 on the afternoon.

Ed Lopat(4-5) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings.






 

Walt Dropo went 5 for 5 with a homer , 2 runs, and 2 RBI as the White Sox edge the Red Sox 5-4.

First baseman Walt Dropo had 5 hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago White Sox
outscored the Boston Red Sox 5 to 4.

Chicago came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning. Boston had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.

The win was credited to Jack Harshman(5-4) who went 8 innings allowing 4 runs.
Dixie Howell recorded his 2nd save. George Susce(1-3) was the losing
pitcher. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'It was a tough one to lose' said Pinky Higgins 'We'll get them next time
out.'
