Center fielder Willie Mays launched 2 homeruns and Jim Hearn delivered 9 solid
innings as the New York Giants topped the Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 5 to
0 at Polo Grounds.

It was a good day for New York thanks to Mays. He launched a rocket-shot out
of the park for a Grand Slam homerun in the 1st inning and smashed a
solo-shot out of the park (his 11th of the season) in the 4th inning. The
pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score
again.

Hearn(4-4) went the distance for the shutout. Billy Loes(3-2) suffered the
loss. 'When Hearn is on like that it is a tough game to play, no doubt about
it,' Walt Alston said. 'He always pitches well against us.'
