In a thriller the Chicago Cubs staged a dramatic comeback over the Milwaukee
Braves winning by a score of 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field.

Chicago had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
using 4 hits. Frankie Baumholtz led off and he laced a base-hit. Eddie
Miksis stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Gene Baker
then banged out a single. Lloyd Merriman followed and he lined a single
resulting in a run. Randy Jackson stepped into the box and slapped a
one-base hit making Chicago the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful. Chicago ended up with 13 hits for the game while Milwaukee had 4.

Hy Cohen(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Gene Conley(3-4) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.

Stan Hack was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked
about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered,
'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, Charlie Grimm, feels
right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the
short end of one of these!'
