Whitey Ford took a no-hitter into the 8th inning at Memorial Stadium where the
blistering-hot New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 3
to 0.

Ford(5-2) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Baltimore
hitters. He didn't allow much, just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering
his ERA to 2.19. The left-handed Ford lost his chance for a no-hitter when
Fred Marsh doubled with two outs in the 8th inning. After the 4th inning,
neither team was able to score.

Erv Palica(1-7) was the loser. He allowed 6 hits and 7 walks in 9 innings.
