WEB GEMS- Bot 4th: Kansas City turns a triple play!

Vic Power slammed a homerun as the Kansas City Athletics defeated the Detroit
Tigers by the score of 4 to 3 at Briggs Stadium.

Kansas City started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they tallied 3 runs on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Gus
Zernial who quieted the home crowd when he slapped a one-base hit which was
good for two runs. Detroit had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory went to Vic Raschi(2-1) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Tom Gorman was credited with his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was Duke
Maas(1-4). He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2
walks in 8 innings.
