The New York Yankees defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 4 to 1 at
Griffith Stadium.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning scoring 3
runs utilizing 3 base hits. Mickey Mantle got things going when he delivered
a solo blast (his 15th of the season). After an out was recorded, Elston
Howard stepped in and he laced a single. One out later, Billy Hunter came up
and he drew a walk. Bill Skowron was up next and he doubled which was good
for two more runs. New York and Washington each finished the afternoon with
11 hits.

Jim Konstanty(3-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Pedro
Ramos(0-3) suffered the loss in relief. New York continued their winnings
ways improving their record to a league leading 31-12. They are 9-1 in their
last ten games. Washington continued their losing ways and their record is
now 18-23. They are 1-9 in their last ten games.
