Rookie Roberto Clemente hit a walk off two run homer, his first ML homer, as the Pirates down the Cardinals 7-6.


Rookie Dale Long also had a big game for the Pirates with two homers and a triple.

Dale Long launched 2 homeruns at Forbes Field as the Pittsburgh Pirates won in
dramatic fashion coming back to beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of
8 to 7.

Pittsburgh came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2
runs. After two outs Felipe Montemayor opened up the rally as he drew a
walk. Roberto Clemente stepped up to the plate and he cracked a two-run shot
(his 1st of the season) giving Pittsburgh the win and sending the home town
fans into a frenzy. Pittsburgh rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.

Vern Law(5-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Barney Schultz(0-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 runs and 1
hit in 2/3 of an inning.
