Billy Hoeft allowed Bucky Harris to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and right fielder Al Kaline had 4 hits and 6 RBI at Briggs Stadium where the
Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 12 to 4.

Kaline was really 'in the zone'. He doubled plating two runs in the 2nd
inning, lined a one-base hit in the 4th inning, slapped a single bringing in
two baserunners in the 5th inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 13th of the
season) in the 7th inning. Detroit managed 13 in their victory.

Hoeft(6-5) allowed 4 runs on the game. Tom Brewer(6-4) absorbed the loss.
'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Kaline said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and
not do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by
game, and pitch by pitch.'
