13,767 fans watched an exciting game at Briggs Stadium. The Detroit Tigers
topped the Boston Red Sox by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

Babe Birrer(1-0) won the game with a masterful relief performance. He was
stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and no walks in 2 innings. Boston
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Willard Nixon(4-5) was the losing pitcher. The Detroit ballclub's record now
stands at 24-29. With the loss, the Boston ballclub's record is 29-26.
