Carl Erskine rebounds from recent poor performance to go 8 strong innings as the Dodgers edge the Cubs 4-3.


Erskine had given up 10 runs in 11 2/3 innings over his last two starts, both losses.

Pee Wee Reese had 2 base hits at Ebbets Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat
the Chicago Cubs by the score of 4 to 3.

Brooklyn went ahead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring one
runner on 2 hits. Jackie Robinson lined a single. Walt Alston then called
for a steal which was successful. Carl Furillo then would ground out scoring
the run. Chicago proved to be no trouble in the 9th.

The victory was credited to Carl Erskine(5-5) who went 8 innings, allowing 3
runs. Clem Labine gained credit for his 3rd save. Sam Jones(4-7) took the
loss. His biggest problem was control as he allowed 9 walks in 6 innings.
