Harry Byrd was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game and Hal Smith had 2 base hits as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the
Detroit Tigers by the score of 3 to 1 at Briggs Stadium.

Baltimore brought 2 runs across the plate in the 6th inning with the help of 3
hits. Eddie Waitkus led off the inning for Baltimore when he drew a walk.
Hoot Evers stepped up to the plate and he doubled. Smith then lined a
single, and an error was also committed, driving home two runs. Baltimore
rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Byrd(5-4) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Frank Lary(2-7) was
given the loss. The win by Baltimore is a very welcome one as they have been
struggling in recent days. Their record now stands at 16-33 - only 2-8 in
their last ten games. With the loss, Detroit has a record of 5-5 lately,
21-25 overall.
