NL Transaction June 9th

The Cincinnati Reds traded Bob Borkowski and cash to Brooklyn Dodgers in exchange for
Joe Black.

The 29 year old Borkowski was in his 4th year with the Redlegs after two years with the Cubs. last year he hit .258 with 12 RBI in 77 games. This year he was not getting the playing time and was hitting .167 with 1 RBI in 19 plate appearances. He will be a pinch hitter and defensive replacement for the Dodgers according to Manager Walter Alston.

Black, a 31 year old relief pitcher, was in his 4th year with the Dodgers. After a terrific rookie year in 1952 he has struggled with arm injuries the last two seasons. Last year he only pitched 6 innings and was 0-0 with a 7.94 ERA. This season Black was 2-0 with a 4.70 ERA in 15 innings pitched. Redlegs Manager Birdie Tebbets will immediatley put him in the bullpen for much needed help.
