Center fielder Duke Snider launched 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Don Newcombe
went 9 strong innings as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the St. Louis
Cardinals 9 to 1 at Sportsmans Park.

Snider led the offense for Brooklyn. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 1st inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his
15th of the season) in the 5th inning. Brooklyn banged out 12 on the night.

Newcombe(8-2) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Gordon Jones(2-7)
was the loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 and 1/3 innings of work.

The Brooklyn ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 40-20. With the
loss, St. Louis has a record of 4-6 lately, 25-31 overall.
