In a good matchup it was the Chicago White Sox 8, the New York Yankees 6 at
Yankee Stadium.

New York fell behind quickly as the Chicago offense came through in the first
inning scoring a single run utilizing 2 base hits. New York had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.

Dick Donovan(9-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Donovan
was helped out by Sandy Consuegra who recorded his 4th save. Whitey
Ford(7-4) was given the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 6 hits in 4 and 1/3
innings.

'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Casey Stengel said. 'It's
bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating
yourselves, that's really bad.'
