Third baseman Solly Hemus had 2 base hits and scored 3 times and Harvey Haddix
completed the game without help from the bullpen at Sportsmans Park where the
St. Louis Cardinals beat the reeling Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 2.

Pittsburgh was unable to recover after St. Louis went ahead in the 3rd inning
scoring a single run. Hemus was hit by a pitch. Wally Moon stepped up next
and he reached on an error. Stan Musial then hit a deep fly scoring the run.
That early scoring held up. Despite losing, Pittsburgh out-hit St. Louis 10
to 6.

Haddix(6-6) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Vern Law(5-4)
was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 4 runs and 4 hits in 6 innings.
