Solly Hemus blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Larry Jackson delivered 9
solid innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates were badly beaten by the St. Louis
Cardinals, 11 to 0.

Hemus enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of the
park in the 1st inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 3rd inning and
smacked a three-run homer (his 4th of the season) in the 7th inning. The St.
Louis offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

Jackson(4-5) went the distance for the shutout. The losing pitcher was Ron
Kline(2-8). He was knocked around by St. Louis, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks
in 4 innings.

Fred Haney lamented, 'Jackson was really aggressive today. He kept coming
after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one after
another - like so many bowling pins!'
