The Baltimore Orioles signed Tom Gastall and Tex Nelson as an amateur free agents (bonus baby).
Gastall is a 23 year old catcher from Fall River, Massachusetts. Manager Paul Richards will use him to back up Hal Smith.
Nelson is an 18 year old firstbaseman/outfielder.
