NL Transaction June 21st

The Pittsburgh Pirates sent Felipe Montemayor and Laurin Pepper down to Triple A.

The 25 year old outfielder, Montemayor, was in his 2nd season with the Pirates. He had 62 plate appearnces in 1953 hitting .109. This year he won a starting spot but after a quick start his average has fallen to .149 with one homer and 10 RBI in 34 games. (Felipe is in the middle of the picture with Dale Long and Roberto Clemente flanking him).














Pepper, a 24 year old pitcher, is in his 2nd season with the big club. In 20 innings pitched this year he is 0-2 with a 14.40 ERA. Last year Laurin was 0-6 with a 7.19 ERA in 51 innings pitched. Pirates Skipper Fred Haney was quoted "Laurin has some of the best stuff I have seen but needs to work on his command"
