First baseman Ted Kluszewski launched 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the
Cincinnati Redlegs defeated the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 9
to 4 at Crosley Field.

Kluszewski was in a groove all day. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 1st inning, smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 6th
inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 18th of the season)
in the 8th inning. Cincinnati had 19 hits for the afternoon while Pittsburgh
had 12.

Joe Nuxhall(7-4) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Ron Kline(2-9)
absorbed the loss. Cincinnati scored big getting 6 runs off him in 4 and 1/3
innings.

'They made a couple of mistakes and I took full advantage,' Kluszewski said
'next time I'm sure they'll pitch me tougher.'
