Center fielder Gus Bell left the yard and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Redlegs
beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 7 to 6.

Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning scoring 3 runs using 3
hits. Ted Kluszewski started the inning off right when he doubled. Wally
Post stepped up to the plate and he doubled resulting in a run. Bell then
blasted a two-run home run (his 14th of the season). Philadelphia had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The victory went to Joe Black(3-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Bob
Miller(3-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. Despite losing Mayo Smith was
optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over this one. Sometimes the breaks
fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one of a dozen little things go
different, and we come out on top.'
