Right fielder Jackie Jensen hit a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
defeated the Detroit Tigers by the score of 6 to 5 at Fenway Park.

Boston jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring one
runner using 2 hits. Detroit threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to
put down the rally.

The victory was credited to Tom Brewer(7-5) who went 7 and 1/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Brewer got relief help from Leo Kiely who gained credit for
his 3rd save. Frank Lary(4-8) absorbed the loss.

Pinky Higgins was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of
games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can
relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'
