One run was the difference at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Chicago White Sox in 10 innings 7 to 6.

The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Washington won it in
the 10th inning. Pete Runnels doubled. Mickey Vernon came to the plate and
doubled making Washington the victors to the delight of the home town
faithful. Washington had 8 hits for the night.

The winning pitcher was Chuck Stobbs(5-5) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Sandy Consuegra(2-2) took the loss in relief. He was unable to retire a
batter giving up 2 hits and no walks.
