At Yankee Stadium the New York Yankees easily handled the floundering Kansas
City Athletics in 13 innings by the score of 5 to 1.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Finally, New York pulled the
game out in the 13th inning. The key at-bat was by Elston Howard who
thrilled the crowd when he hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his
teammates (his 6th of the season). New York had 10 hits for the afternoon
while Kansas City had 7.

Tom Morgan(4-1) went 4 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Lou
Sleater(0-2) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning allowing 2
hits and 1 walk.
