Harvey Haddix went the distance as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied
impressively to win in dramatic style over Philadelphia Phillies, 5 to
3.

St. Louis came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning when
they scored 4 runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Stan
Musial who excited the crowd when he cleared the bases with a Grand Slam
homerun (his 16th of the season). Although they lost, Philadelphia did
out-hit St. Louis 13 to 8.

Haddix(7-6) allowed 3 runs on the game. Jack Meyer(3-5) was given the loss in
relief. Harry Walker was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking
pretty dim there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did
our fans - they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'
