With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
New York Yankees rallied to top Cleveland Indians by the score of 4 to
3.

New York came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs
utilizing 3 base hits. Yogi Berra opened up the inning nicely when he
smacked a single. Two outs later Andy Carey came up and he tripled plating a
run. Phil Rizzuto then drew a walk. Charlie Silvera followed and he drew a
walk to load the bases. Bob Cerv stepped into the box and laced a base-knock
making New York victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.
Although they lost, Cleveland did out-hit New York 12 to 7.

The victory went to Bob Wiesler(4-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. The
losing pitcher was Don Mossi(4-4) in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 2
hits in 1/3 of an inning.

Casey Stengel was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren't going to be denied. And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!'
