Cleveland Indians on waivers. Philley, the 35 year old outfielder, is in his 11th ML season. Last year he hit .213 with 15 homers and 73 RBI as the starting RF for the World Champion Indians. This season he had lost his starting job and was hitting .298 with 1 HR and 15 RBI in 116 plate appearances.
The Orioles released 1B Eddie Waitkus to make room for Philley. Waitkus, also 35, is in his 11th season. Last year he hit .299 with 2 HR and 21 RBI as a platoon regular with the Orioles. This year he was hitting .326 with no HR and 5 RBI in 96 plate appearances.
