One run was the difference at Griffith Stadium as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Boston Red Sox 5 to 4.

The game was won by Washington with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Roy Sievers blasted a solo shot (his 8th of the season). Washington finished
with 11 hits in the victory.

The winning pitcher was Ted Abernathy(4-2) who allowed 4 runs in 8 innings.
Dean Stone got the save, his 1st. Ellis Kinder(2-2) was tagged with the loss
in relief. He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and no walks.

'He gutted it out' Chuck Dressen said of Abernathy. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'
