Dusty Rhodes drew a bases loaded walk in the 9th to give New York a 5-3 win over Pittsburgh in the 1st of a doubleheader.

Gail Harris had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Jim Hearn pitched a complete game as
the New York Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 3 at
Forbes Field.

New York came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Bill Taylor
started the attack as he banged out a single. Don Mueller was next and he
lined a base-hit. Mueller took second on the throw. Willie Mays then was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Dusty Rhodes was up next and he drew
a walk which scored a run. Hank Thompson came to the plate and hit a deep
fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York had 12 hits for the
afternoon.

Hearn(7-7) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Bob Friend(4-7)
absorbed the loss. He was touched for 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 and 1/3
innings.
