Rookie Gene Freese singled in the winning run as the Pirates rallied from 6 runs down to down the Giants 7-6.



The Giants winning streak and the Pirates losing streak are both ended at 6 games.

Frank Thomas touched them all and had 2 RBI and Bob Friend delivered 7 solid
innings at Forbes Field where the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Giants
in 10 innings 7 to 6.

The score was tied at 6 after nine. Finally, Pittsburgh pulled the game out
in the 10th inning. Preston Ward tripled. Dale Long was next and he was
walked intentionally. Thomas was next to the plate, but was promptly struck
out. Gene Freese stepped in and he stroked a one-base hit giving Pittsburgh
the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Pittsburgh had 11 hits
for the night.

The victory went to Ron Kline(3-10) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Marv
Grissom(0-6) was given the loss in relief. When questioned, Fred Haney
remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a
while since we had a win period!'
