Rookie Ron Negray tosses a 6 hitter as the Phillies upend the Dodgers 8-3 in the first of two games today.

Ron Negray completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 8 to 3 at Connie Mack
Stadium.

Philadelphia had 4 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning with
the help of 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Roy Smalley who made the crowd
happy when he belted a three-run homer (his 5th of the season). Philadelphia
finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Negray(2-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Don
Newcombe(8-5) took the loss. Philadelphia scored big getting 5 runs off him
in 4 innings.

The win by Philadelphia was very good news as they had been 2-8 of late. Now
their seasonal record improves to 32-44. With the loss Brooklyn now has a
record of 50-26.
