Sandy Koufax had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and he went the distance as the
Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 1 at Forbes Field.

In the top of the 2nd inning Brooklyn scored 3 runs. Don Zimmer led off and
keyed the rally when he reached on an error. Jim Gilliam stepped into the
batter's box and he banged out a single, and an error was also committed.
Rube Walker then drew a walk to load the bases. Koufax was up next and he
delivered a base-hit driving home two runs. Don Hoak was a strikeout victim,
unable to help out. Pee Wee Reese added to the outburst and drew a walk to
load the bases. Duke Snider was next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the
final run of the inning. That was all the runs Koufax(2-0) needed. Brooklyn
managed 10 in their victory.

The loss was charged to Vern Law(5-9). He pitched 8 innings allowing 9 hits
and 6 walks.
