Struggling veteran Hank Sauer hit a walk off shot in the bottom of the 12th, his 2nd of the game, giving the Cubs a 4-3 win over the Cardinals.

Hank Sauer blasted 2 homeruns at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the
St. Louis Cardinals in 12 innings 4 to 3.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Chicago came out the victor in
the 12th inning. After an out was recorded, Sauer became the sole author of
the rally when he cracked a bases-empty home run (his 5th of the season)
making Chicago the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Chicago
totaled 11 on the afternoon.

Hal Jeffcoat(4-6) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. The
loss was charged to Mel Wright(1-1) in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning
giving up 1 hit and no walks.
