Ted Williams doubled in the go ahead run in the 10th as the Red Sox end the Yankee winning streak at 5 games in the 1st game of a doubleheader 5-4.

One run was the difference at Yankee Stadium as the Boston Red Sox defeated
the New York Yankees in 10 innings 5 to 4.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings. Boston was
victorious in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Billy Klaus drew a
walk. Ted Williams followed and he doubled scoring the run. Boston and New
York each finished the afternoon with 6 hits.

Ike Delock(4-4) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Johnny
Kucks(6-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk
in 2 and 2/3 innings.
