Center fielder Willie Mays smacked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Sal Maglie
allowed Lou Durocher to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Connie
Mack Stadium as the New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the
count of 5 to 2.

Mays provided much of the offense. He blasted a two-run home run in the 3rd
inning, singled in the 7th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his
25th of the season) in the 9th inning. New York had a total of 11 hits for
the game.

Maglie(5-4) allowed 2 runs on the game. Curt Simmons(2-6) was the loser. He
gave up 4 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 3.90 to 4.16.
