Billy Loes was on top of his game, blanking Pittsburgh on just 3 hits at
Forbes Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the count
of 4 to 0.

Loes(6-3) had a strong outing. He allowed only 3 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.49 to 3.13. Brooklyn managed 10 in their
victory.

Ron Kline(3-11) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 10 hits in 9
innings.

Sam Jones pitched a 3 hit shutout at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat
the Milwaukee Braves 5 to 0.

Jones(7-8) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Milwaukee batters. He allowed just 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering
his ERA to 3.38. Chicago rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Bob Buhl(10-3) ended up with the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 and
1/3 innings.

PHILADELPHIA AT NEW YORK

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Giants by a score of 4 to 1 at
Polo Grounds.

New York fell behind quickly as the Philadelphia offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits. That scoring would be all that was
needed. New York went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.

The victory went to Murry Dickson(4-7) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1
run. Dickson got help from Jack Meyer who was credited with his 5th save.
The losing pitcher was Ruben Gomez(5-3). He allowed 4 runs and 5 hits in 8
innings.


ST. LOUIS AT CINCINNATI

Joe Nuxhall pitched a complete game and Ted Kluszewski cracked a homer and had
2 RBI at Crosley Field where the Cincinnati Redlegs beat the St. Louis
Cardinals by the score of 7 to 4.

Cincinnati tallied 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits. Johnny
Temple led off and he lined a one-base hit. Temple was safe on a stolen
base. Harvey Haddix then had one get away for a wild pitch. Stan Palys came
up and he doubled driving in a run. Kluszewski came to the plate and slapped
a base-hit, and an error was also committed, driving in one more runner.
After an out was recorded, Gus Bell came to the plate and lined a base-hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Cincinnati banged out 11 on the night.

Nuxhall(10-5), allowing 4 runs for the game, picked up the victory.
Haddix(8-8) was given the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 6
innings of work.
