Second baseman Don Zimmer hit a grand slam as the incredible Brooklyn Dodgers
defeated the New York Giants 10 to 6 at Polo Grounds.

Brooklyn went ahead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run.
Brooklyn banged out 11 on the afternoon.

Karl Spooner(8-0) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Spooner got help from Ed Roebuck who was credited with his 5th save. Jim
Hearn(7-8) was given the loss. Brooklyn scored big getting 6 runs off him in
2 and 1/3 innings.

Warren Hacker was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and second baseman Gene Baker hit 2 doubles and had 2 RBI as
the Chicago Cubs defeated the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 7 to 1 at
Sportsmans Park.

Hacker(5-7) had a solid outing for Chicago. He allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in
9 innings. Chicago totaled 14 on the night. Tom Poholsky(1-3) took the
loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.

At County Stadium the Cincinnati Redlegs outscored the Milwaukee Braves 5 to
2.

Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 8th inning as they
scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Ted
Kluszewski who silenced County Stadium as he belted a three-run homer (his
27th of the season). Milwaukee was retired without difficulty in the bottom
of the 9th.

Gerry Staley(6-7) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 7 innings. Staley was
helped out by Hersh Freeman who recorded his 5th save. The losing pitcher
was Ray Crone(3-3). He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and
1 walk.

Robin Roberts completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Philadelphia Phillies outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 4.

Philadelphia scored all of the necessary runs in the 7th inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 5 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Del Ennis who
quieted the home crowd when he lofted a three-run bomb (his 15th of the
season). Pittsburgh made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to
push the needed runs across.

The win went to Roberts(9-10) who allowed 4 runs in the game. Lino Donoso(1-3)
was the loser in relief. 'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them'
Fred Haney said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What
can you say?'
